2011 Formula 1 Grand Prix in India : Dates revealed

The 2011 Formula One season will be the 62nd FIA Formula One and FIA (International Automobile Federation) has confirmed that India will host 18th Grand Prix which will held next year. With the inaugural running of the Indian Grand Prix, the calendar will expand to twenty rounds and give a major increase to the country's motor sport sphere. India has been handed over a chance to host its inaugural Formula 1 race on 30th October 2011 if the circuit being built near the national capital New Delhi and gets finished as well as passes the final inspection before the scheduled time.

After a meeting of world motor sport council, the decision was made public on Wednesday, 8th September. With the arrival of the Indian Grand Prix, the 2011 season would be the longest on record boosting the number of races to 20. Also, the FIA has announced in its meeting that no entry had met the necessary standard to fill the vacant 13th team spot, dashing former world champion Jacques Villeneuve’s hopes of recurring to the grid next year.

The 2011 season will start on March 13 with first race in Bahrain and end on November 27 with last race in Brazil. The 18th Race will be held in India and after that the race will be held in Abu Dhabi becoming the penultimate race on 13th November. Although FIA advised that it was subject to the circuit close to New Delhi passing inspection.

In a statement, the FIA also said that no new team would join the series next season as none of the candidates met the necessities for entry. Due to financial reasons, many of the anticipated main contenders had already withdrawn but Spanish-based Epsilon Euzkadi and a combined effort involving Italy's Durango and Canada's former world champion Jacques Villeneuve had remain in the running.

When members of the FIA will visit, inspect and homologate the track, construction at the circuit site is on at an imposing pace. The final seal on the race will be required to wait until the homologation of the circuit by this team.

Some steps are also announced by the world motor sport council to enable the governing body to chastise Formula One drivers and other competitors in FIA series who commit motoring offences on public roads. The FIA has also declared that competitors at FIA events must act as ambassadors for the sport, be conscious of their conduct on the road must be exemplary and revere road safety rules.

  • 09 October: Japanese
  • 16 October: Korean
  • 30 October: Indian
  • 13 November: Abu Dhabi
  • 27 November: Brazilian
