At the 2010 Chicago Auto Show, it was one of those rare instances where the media was really seeing it for the first time, as God planned unveilings to be. The 2011 Honda Odyssey Concept looks almost production ready other than its door handles, lights and a few other details, though billed as a concept.
Honda decided not to play it safe with the redesign when the current third-generation van is the best selling minivan in America two years running. The all-new fourth-generation Odyssey is a big exodus for Honda. It is lower and wider like an almost Mercedes R-Class stance. According to official news, it is only one inch lower and 1.4 inches wider, it looked like a lot more than that. A "lightning bolt" lower greenhouse border is also featured in the 2011 Odyssey that reminds us of the Nissan Quest a bit. Honda says it helps with rearward visibility.
The interior is completely blocked off and Honda reps promised something big. Honda shared the fact that this Odyssey is all-American. This is truly a product of the U.S. of A from inspiration to target market, styling to assembly. The production version of this 2011 Honda Odyssey will likely look a lot like this concept and should be in dealerships this fall. It is said to save a V6 that will deliver slightly better fuel economy but no specifics were mentioned.
Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of American Honda product planning said “The Odyssey established its reputation by providing families with what they most want in a minivan – great functionality, an emphasis on safety and good fuel economy. Odyssey then further delighted customers with its surprisingly engaging, fun-to-drive and dynamic nature. The next-generation Odyssey promises to take these strengths to a higher level while adding more style and personality.”
