Peugeot announced their new 508 which will replace the handsome 407 in 2011. Peugeot 508 is due for UK launch in the spring 2011 and it will be accessible in two complementary body styles a Saloon with a length of 4.79 m and an SW estate at 4.81 m. Peugeot's new start/stop technology, called e-HDI will be included in it. Offering a multi-faceted plea to its owners with emotion as its central theme, quality, purity and efficiency are the bywords that guided every feature of the car’s design.
Peugeot proclaimed that its year to date sales had increased by 16.8 per cent in a market that was up only 13.2 per cent, previous this week. A statement from the car company reads, "Guided by the search for perfectly balanced and streamlined contours, the style of 508 has a solidity that reflects the aspirations of elegance, robustness and high quality." After the commercial launch of the 508, a year after Peugeot will introduce diesel-electric hybrid version using the same technology as the recently announced 3008 Hybrid4 crossover.
Technical Specifications of Peugeot 508:
In-car enjoyment at a very high level:
The exclusive ambience of the passenger compartment is added by the simple and stylish style of the facade, the meticulous finish, the materials chosen, the durability and the technologies deployed (color “head-up display”, four-zone air conditioning, “keyless” entry and start-up).
Stylistic Purity:
The style of the 508 suggests a vehicle "sculpted from a solid" reflecting ambitions of stylishness, heftiness and build quality, guided by the search for perfectly balanced and streamlined contours. At the front, with a single grille rendered in a "floating" style and piercing headlamps with a particularly marked visual expression, like its "LED tubes" visible both by day and by night, the Peugeot 508 illustrates the improvement of the Marque's latest stylistic codes first revealed on the SR1 concept car. Similarly, behind, three red "claws" mask three rows of LEDs on the Saloon. With a red band that lights up when the rear lights are activated, the 508 SW has a more compound feel.
Efficient engines:
Factors which place the 508 among the leaders in its segment in every power category are weight, aerodynamics and of course the PSA Group’s technological expertise and innovation in HDi FAP diesel, VTi and THP petrol engines.
508 HDi FAP diesel range:
- 1.6 litre e-HDi FAP 112bhp, 285(1)Nm, EGC 6-speed(5); CO2: 109(2) g/km
- 1.6 litre HDi FAP 112bhp, 254(1)Nm, 5-speed manual; CO2: 124g/km
- 2.0 litre HDi FAP 140bhp, 340(1)Nm, 6-speed manual; CO2: 125g/km
- 2.0 litre HDi FAP 163bhp, 340Nm, 6-speed automatic; CO2: 149g/km(3)
- 2.2 litre HDi FAP 204bhp, 450Nm, 6-speed automatic; CO2: 150g/km
508 petrol range:
- 1.6 litre VTi 120bhp; 160Nm, EGC 6-speed; CO2: 144 g/km (3)
- 1.6 litre THP 156bhp, 240Nm, 6-speed manual; CO2: 149 g/km (4)
- 1.6 litre THP 156bhp, 240Nm, 6-speed automatic; CO2: 164 g/km (3)
Environmental efficiency:
From the very start of the project initially, optimization of the car’s aerodynamics, environmental efficiency was a key concern. The 508 benefits from engines offer a power output from 112 to 204 bhp under the bonnet. Each one is positioned particularly well in its category, both in respect of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, also in terms of performance and responsiveness. The variety starts with CO2 emissions of just 109 g/km with the new e-HDi system, will ultimately comprise HYbrid4 technology with its potential of 200bhp, four-wheel drive and CO2 emissions from just 99 g/km. Offering a level of performance worthy of a V6 diesel but with a carbon footprint reduced by more than 30%, the new 2.2 litre HDi FAP 204bhp is the most-powerful engine in the variety.
Dynamic Emotion:
With the Peugeot 508, also find expression through driving enjoyment, a characteristic highly prized by the Marque. The 508 will be accessible with two types of suspension a new McPherson type front axle for the majority of the variety, ensuring a top quality blend of comfort and road holding and a drop link dual wishbone front axle on the "GT" version for improved dynamic road holding to match the performance of the 2.2 litre HDi FAP 204 bhp engine.
HDi technology:
With a new-generation ‘Stop & Start’ system, the 508 ushers in the period of e-HDi technology for the Marque. Rapid, efficient and silent, e-HDi unites abridged fuel consumption and CO2 emissions with utmost driveability. It is mated with the 1.6 litre HDi FAP engine coupled with the electronically-controlled 6-speed manual gearbox so that a maximum number of customers can benefit from the lowest possible fuel consumption. New 2.2 litre HDi FAP 6-speed automatic gearbox is powerful, lively and fuel efficient.
Quality:
Quality is one more key priority of the Peugeot 508 design. It is the result of a constant search for the best possible quality at all levels, with engineering choices guided by the need for maximum durability, with a determination to provide a vehicle that stays "fresh" for as long as possible; a high level finish visible from both outside and inside the car, with an exclusive passenger compartment perceived by occupants as very rewarding; completion of a two million kilometre road test under real-life conditions prior to launch.
