Recently, German car manufacturer BMW has revealed 2012 BMW 8-Series in the market. New BMW 8 series is four-door coupe which competes closely with the new Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, Aston Martin Rapide and Porsche Panamera.
New 8-series comes with aluminum and carbon fibre body to reduce weight. The Concept Gran Coupe’s is adopted by 2012 BMW 8-series. It contains same long wheelbase, vaulted bonnet with forward-pointing lines, set-back greenhouse, flat silhouette and coupe-style roof line. It is said that New 8-series is to be powered by a 6.0-litre V12 engine that will be manufactured by adding two cylinders to BMW’s existing V10 engine as found in the M5. Klaus Draeger, BMW’s R&D chief said that the new luxury car will be positioned alongside the 6-series in terms of pricing and technology.
Draeger said a hybrid version was also possible. “We are in position to bring out an additional hybrid version since we are using the same powertrain architecture as the 5-, 6- or 7-series,” he said. The performance division built the new GT/8-series model, which will be the first non M-series car. BMW M President, Herr Willisch said that the CS, “It’s a car that doesn’t have any resemblance to the other cars built by BMW AG, so it was decided to give the project to us.”
New 8-series will be introduced most likely in 2010 as a 2012 year model. The 2012 BMW 8-Series comes with 8 and 6 cylinder engines with all new 8-speed transmission. The "engine sound programming kit" is offered by the 2012 BMW 8-Series that CAR forecasts for the redesigned 6-Series. BMW design chief Adrian van Hooydonk at the car's launch in China earlier this year said, “It’s true that the Gran Coupé points to a specific model, a saloon with the presence and elegance of a 7-series but a more dynamic, sporty character: much more of a driver’s car”. “We’re convinced that we should make a car like this.”
