A strong and safe password is very essential to protect online privacy, then also many people use common, weak and easy-to-guess passwords that can be traced by the hackers easily. Short or weak passwords put you at a risk of identity theft or fraud. The list of 25 Worst Passwords on the Internet for 2011 has been released by SplashData, a California computer security firm that makes password management tools. The list has been made on the basis of stolen passwords which are placed online by the hackers.
As per annual list of SplashData, “Password” is the most common and least successful password. Other common passwords in the list are “111111″, “abc123”, “qwerty”, “monkey”, michael,” “ashley”, “trustno1”, “shadow”, “bailey”, “123456,” and “qazwsx.” Hackers try these common passwords again & again and easily burglarize many accounts. If businesses and consumers are using any of the passwords that are mentioned on the list should change it right away.
SplashData recommends creating more complex password that have at least 8 characters which are combined with characters (upper and lower case letters), spaces, numbers, dashes and symbols. You should use different and unique password for multiple websites (email, online banking, Facebook and entertainment sites) and change them every 6 months. You can use a simple sentence to create a password and separate it by spaces or other characters for e.g. “car_parking_spot”.
If you have problem to remember passwords then a password manager application can help you. Manager application will manage & protect your passwords. Many applications are available but opt for application that has a strong record of trustworthiness and security.
