The Company also owns the largest franchised computer retail chain in Taipei, Taiwan.) has been in news all the time for making a netbook that will be running on the Web based OS of Google Chrome (Google Chrome OS is an upcoming Linux-based, open source operating system designed by Google to work exclusively with web applications Chrome OS is set to have a publicly available stable release during the second half of 2010. Chrome OS will not be available as a download to run and install. Instead, the operating system will only ship on specific hardware from Google's manufacturing partners).

Acer, on its part, has been very quiet about its new subject, but thanks to a recent leak we were able to know a little about the details. Acer Chrome OS netbook specs leaked in bug reports. The leak comes after a staff on Acer’s side has been reporting on an unnamed netbook. The device is going through several tests notably the Linux and Google Chrome as bug reports were submitted based on these tests.

This machine may not actually have the strongest hardware build, and definitely doesn't feature Intel's dual-core CPU, but the reported specs do indicate a fairly competent configuration. Usually, we find the Acer devices equipped with a SanDisk pSSD-S2 solid state drive, whose capacity is of 8GB. However, the pSSD-S2 is part of a larger line with capacities of up to a full 64GB, features SATA, mSATA and µSATA connectors and read/write speeds of up to 70 MB/s. This product will run Windows 7 Starter, which makes it inherently different from a certain something that Acer has in mind. it works on a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 CPU; it comes with a 1GB of memory and 8GB SanDisk pSSD (solid state disk). It has a feature that is quite common on other netbooks: an ambient light sensor. It also features WiFi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity as its connection options.

Of course, there is no word till now on the pricing or release date, but experts say it won’t take long- also a bug report comment made on 26^th July indicates that : “It appears this is an item we'd like to try hard to get in for the ZGA PVT run. FYI, the run is scheduled to start 7/29.” So, gear up people for the wait seems to be coming to an end. It seems to be finally coming a Acer netbook running the Google Chrome OS. This suggests that the mass production of the device shall start on the later part of September which apparently means that the device shall start getting pre orders by the end of this year.

Also, amongst the reports of HTC planning for the same this becomes quite a significant breakthrough.
