American Actor and Dancer James Mitchell, who became famous for his role as Palmer Cortlandt on the ABC Show "All My Children," has died at the Age of 89 on Friday 22nd January, 2010 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. An 89 year old "All My Children" Actor has died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease complicated by pneumonia.
“For the last one year he had suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease” Said partner Albert Wolsky. The times said, “Mitchell was born on 29th February, 1920 in Sacramento, California” and he had leading roles in like a Broadway musicals as "Bloomer Girl," "Billion Dollar Baby," "Brigadoon" and "Paint Your Wagon."
Mitchell appeared more than 300 episodes as the tough-edged patriarch Palmer Cortland on the long-running soap opera from 1979 until a 40th anniversary episode this month. For this Role, he was nominated for seven Daytime Emmy Awards.
Mitchell partner Wolsky says, “He loved playing the gruff, wealthy Palmer, who wielded power over the show's fictional town of Pine Valley”. Former in his career, He had leading parts in the Broadway musicals "Brigadoon" and "Paint Your Wagon."
Mitchell also played a role in many films include 1953's "The Band Wagon" with Fred Astaire, 1954's "Deep in My Heart" and 1955's "Oklahoma." In the Yale University and Drake University, Mitchell taught movement for actors, where he was awarded an honorary doctorate.
