In the history of humanity, the violent, scheming antics of the ancient Greek pantheon make it one of the most fascinating anthologies of mythological figures. But it is not good that the same can’t be said about Ancient Adventures: Gift of Zeus. It is logically competent hidden object game, which comes with a smattering of simple puzzles. This game has some serious scene repetition that you have played many times before.

The game starts with the Nereid Thetis frantic over the theft of her pearl necklace, which Zeus ordered her to wear and it is also the key of the Hell itself. A sorcerer seeking stolen the necklace to depose the Olympian gods so to protect them - and even more prominently, to keep Zeus from finding out she lost it - she enlists the aid of Maia and Hermes to help her track it down. Thetis is stressed out, Maia is upbeat and Hermes is precocious so it goes for the balance of the game. At the end of each hidden object scene, Maia's explosions of optimism get visibly repetitive in a hurry, as most of them are used at least a few times.

The hidden object scenes are very simple, hand-drawn in a cartoon style and their objects are clear enough to pick out without unfair complexity. They are also portrayed either with words or shadows, switching back and forth between the two throughout of the game. A couple of hidden pink gems are also featured in each scene that can be gathered for game play bonuses that shorten hint recharge times or make hotspots "sparkle" regularly.

With using an appropriate inventory item, like a broom to sweep up dust to reveal another object underneath, the hotspots in each hidden object scene must be interacted. You will find at least a couple of this spot at most of levels, but sometimes it is based on your inventory and sometimes these spots are quite risky to choose. To provide clues as to where they are situated, they sparkle erratically but one can stuck in annoying pixel-hunts anyway. In this game, there are many puzzles which you have to solve and they probably won't be the most fun you will ever have playing a videogame.

The nearby thing to an "original" idea is a miniature Mahjong Solitaire game that shows up a few times, while other things are same as you seen many times before: Spot the differences, rotate the squares, reassemble the pieces and so forth. After a timer counts down, each puzzle can be skipped. Ancient Adventures: Gift of Zeus doesn’t bring anything new in this game that attracts the gamer. The visualization is dull and music and sound effects can quickly become domineering. The hidden object genre is very crowded and the plot is insipid.

The finest thing about Gift of Zeus is actually the bonus "encyclopedia" on ancient Greek mythology that unlocks bit by bit over the course of the game. It contains surprising breath of information on everything from major gods like Zeus and Apollo to less well-known topics like Erinyes, Tartarus, Delphi and Harmonia's Necklace. It is more entertaining than the rest of the game and might inspire players to dig deeper into the Greek mythos. The game is around three hours in length and offers a fairly hefty dose of hidden object searching. The image of Maia is in the bottom-left corner of the screen smiles and blinks their face looks quiet interesting.
