Most of the major companies of the world prefer to store data related to their product reviews, media information and TV reviews (marketing information), but they do not prefer to store such data in their databases because it would make their databases even more huge and clumsy to handle. So, this task of collecting storing and managing this data is given over to smaller companies which collect, manage and handle the same on their part. One such company is The Nielsen Company, which is one of the biggest marketing information providers in the world right now.
The journalists all over the world keep eagerly waiting for the report of the marketing information of various companies to be released by Nielsen, so that they can review the same and write about the performance of these companies in the market. This report is released every quarter and is something to talk about for everyone.
The Nielsen online and Nielsen mobile the two branches of the Nielsen company that manage mobile measurement and online intelligence for the companies have released their reports for this quarter, and all the journalists who were waiting to compare the performance of Android and Google in the last quarter have got their hands full. Here, are some of the excerpts from the report.
To put first things first, in the first quarter of 2010, the market shares of both Google and Apple have increased by 2% from the market share in the last quarter of 2009 but this increase has come at the cost of RIMM’s Blackberry and Windows mobile which have each lost about 2% of the market share. Another result that is worth noticing is the one that says that upto 55% of the Android users are below the age of 34 and for Apple’s iPhone, this result is only 47%, seems like more of the richer, younger and educated people choose Androids over iPhones, something that Google should be proud of.
When asked If you would change from your current OS to other OS only 7% of iPhone users wanted to change from iPhones to Android and 14% of Android users wanted to change from Android to iPhone. If we compare the other big players on the same grounds we see that, while 47% of Blackberry users want another Blackberry, only 34% of Windows Mobile users want another Windows Mobile device. Seems like, though there is an increase in the demand of Androids there is certainly a decrease in customer satisfaction. Sounds alarming for Google does’t it?
And finally on the usage profile, it has been revealed that most of the iPhone users use their devices to download games or play games online but, for the Android users, they bring their phone in more constructive usage like downloading ring tones, wallpapers and uploads. I guess a pretty obvious result seeing that more intelligent people buy the Android.
So, now if you are planning to buy a smart device this quarter, you should check out with the Nielsen report and after that the ball rests in your court!
