Awkward Family Photos Blog was set up this month only a few weeks ago. Two Los Angeles friends launched this blog to joke about their families’ most embarrassing photos. But, they had no idea that it would become a huge success. Awkward Family Photos site premise has hit a nerve with people thrilled to find out that the eccentricities of their own relatives are far from unique. The main contents of this site are awkward family photos and humorously captioned. For this site, the first photos were sent in by the founders’ friends. But, now the site is being swamped with reader submissions. Now, Awkward Family Photos is moving from photo blog to photo album. The bloggers behind this vividly funny site have received approaches from three publishers, in a fairly expected development. Now, you can have your awkward family photos embellishing your coffee table as well as other people, too.

The website is co-founded by Mike Bender with fellow Los Angeles-based writer Doug Chernack. They wish that the site would become a “communal celebration of awkwardness”, and was not intended to humiliate those pictured. Both this bloggers have heard from agent that the blog is debuted in May and the book is slated for release in May 2010. Mr Bender has even posted a photo of his own relatives.

The most popular image amongst all is a soft focus shot of a pregnant woman and her partner embracing as they gaze sweetly at the camera. Both are shirtless. In another image “The Choker”, a smiling son grips his mother tightly around the neck while his father – wearing a dog collar and shorts – looks on. The caption reads: "This is what happens when your male role model is both a priest and a gym teacher."
