Victoria Police has revealed, “Gangland killer Carl Williams died at the high security Barwon Prison after being bashed several times with part of an exercise bike.” On 30 April 2010 at the funeral of Carl Williams, Roberta Williams has paid a loving tribute and telling him as ''a family man''. At St Therese's church in Essendon, which is culminated in the coffin’s departure atop the shoulders of 10 pallbearers, about 100 friends, family and former associates sat through the Catholic service.

Roberta Williams told mourners at St Therese’s Church in Essendon, “you gave me self-belief and confidence when it had been ripped away years before.” She added, “You didn’t love Dhakota (Roberta and Carl’s eight-year-old daughter) any more or less than my other three children.” Tribute is paid to Carl Williams by Williams' daughter Dhakota and her two half-sisters. The best mourners, Tina Turner watched a slideshow that was showing photographs of Williams' life during the service.

To begin its journey to the graveyard, the gold-plated casket was brought slowly and cautiously to a waiting hearse with mourners milling around waiting for the black Mercedes. An unassuming collection of bouquets was placed in the hearse to travel with Williams to his final resting place. Stories of Carl, showering his daughter and stepchildren with gifts, giving them everything they wanted, and teasing Roberta and making her angry, dominated the service.

His stepdaughter Danielle said, “You gave me $500 after my teeth fell out, because you were drunk,” and “You were my best friend.” She added, “I’m sorry I didn’t write to you and visit you as much as I should have, you were always there for me and stuck up for me, I have no excuse.” Dhakota expressed her love for her father and said that to annoy her mother, how her father used to change lyrics to songs. Dhakota said, “Your favourite was hot and cold, but you sang for mum I’m hot and you’re not,” and “You thought you were really funny, but you weren’t.”

Roberta Williams sat next to the father of Carl, George Williams to consol him with her arm around his shoulder during much of the service. When mourners arrived at the church, a black-clad Roberta Williams hugged mourners. Roberta, her daughter Dhakota and other family members pulled up outside the church in stretch black Hummer, where also contained George Williams, father of Carl. With a tall, dome-shaped bouquet of white roses, Williams' gold-plated coffin was placed near the church altar, adorned.

The card read, “A loving dad, husband, son, brother and friend whose smile will never be replaced. 13.10.1970 to 19.4.2010. A special smile, a special face, and a special man we cannot replace. Just think of Carl as resting from the sorrow and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years.”

To capture the service, it is believed that family has arranged a film crew that arrived equipped with cameras and sound equipment. However, there will be no shortage of footage of the event. While the skies are abuzz with news choppers, reporters have crammed the footpaths opposite the church.
