In the Indian market, Chevrolet has tasted a fair amount of success with the ‘Beat’ small car. Looking at the response from the customers, now the carmaker has decided to go a step further and launch a diesel variant of the Beat by the first quarter of 2011. General Motors Indian will launch the diesel variant of its trendy compact car ‘Beat‘ and it is also planning to fit LPG cylinder in this car.

It is noticeable that the diesel variant – when obtainable – sells much greater than the petrol sibling of any car, if we glance at the car sales trends in India. Beat diesel will compete with Maruti Ritz diesel, Ford Figo and Tata Indica and it will only increase competition in the small car market.

General Motors have already announced that the new variant is powered by a 1.0L engine. The model is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder derivative of the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine from FIAT. The main focus of the engine will be to deliver maximum fuel efficiency and said to deliver mileage of 20 kmpl on practical levels and under test conditions, ARAI certification of 22-23 kmpl.

Launch date & Price information of Chevrolet Beat Diesel:

Until now, there is no official Information regarding the price or launch date of Chevrolet Beat Diesel. This car is projected to launch around January 2011. The cost of the Chevrolet Beat is probable to between Rs. 4.2 Lakhs and Rs. 5.5 Lakhs to compete with the same segment of cars. Please note that this is just an estimated assumption and not the official price.

Read below what General Motors India vice-president (Sales, Marketing & Services) Ankush Arora said,

“The one-litre diesel engine will be rolled-out from Talegaon early next year for our small car, Beat.We are planning to increase the production of Cruze to 900 units from the current 600 units and intend to raise production of Beat units to 4,000 from the present 3,300 units.”

Although the parent company was reeling under economic problems, GM India formulated a solid product initiate plan by launching Spark in quite a few variants including Spark Music and Spark LPG so we should appreciate the way GM India doing the business. Then we observe Cruze launch that also managed to clock some decent figures.

Apparently LPG infrastructure in India is much stronger than CNG infrastructure, here again GM India is focusing in LPG version of Beat. GM India is alert of the fact that LPG products can bag enhanced sales than that of its LPG siblings.
