McNeil Consumer Healthcare is based in Fort Washington, Pa. Except Benadryl and Tylenol, the recall also involves other drugs such as Tylenol drops and suspensions, Motrin suspensions, and Zyrtec liquids in bottles because they don’t meet quality standards. McNeil described the products as all lots that have not yet expired of certain over-the-counter (OTC) Children's and Infants' liquid products manufactured in the United States and distributed in the United States, Canada, Dominican Republic, Dubai (UAE), Fiji, Guam, Guatemala, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, and Kuwait.

Parents and caregivers should not administer these products to their children as a precautionary measure. Some recalled products may contain a higher concentration of active ingredient than specified, others contain inactive ingredients that may not meet internal testing requirements; and others may contain tiny particles. In the market, a number of other products including generic versions of the recalled products which are not affected by recall and so are intended for use in infants. It is also recommended by FDA to check the labeling of these products.

It was reviewing procedures at McNeil, which appears to be the sole source of the problems, said by FDA. FDA spokeswoman Elaine Gansz Bobo said, "We are following through with the facility to make certain that everything has been checked." Parents are recommended to contact a health care professional if children who have taken the recalled products and have unusual symptoms. Recalled products may be returned for a refund or exchanged for a fresh product once manufacturing issues have been resolved.

The recall of these drugs was not issued because of medical hazards or concerns according to McNeil Consumer Healthcare. They said that such events are remotely a possibility, but still recommend users to discontinue the use of these products.
