Comcast’s new service is available online at xfinity.com/news/missingkids. A new channel, Missing Kids on Demand will also be hosted by Comcast Cable, hosting 20 profiles for at least 12 weeks and rotating new profiles into the mix each month. The running time of the profile is two minutes and will give as much information as possible including the child’s name, photo, description, an aged photo (if available), the city of the disappearance, last known whereabouts and many more.
In some cases, where the child has been missing from long time, an aged photo showcasing what he/she may appear at a more recent age will also be available. Additionally, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children will also display toll-free 24-hour national missing children’s hotline (800-THE-LOST) on the bottom of the profile during the airing of every profile. So, spectators can report tips if they have any information regarding this. To report tips online, spectators can visit the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s website www.missingkids.com.
Ernie Allen, President and CEO of National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said, “The best way to help find a missing child is to get the message out as broadly as possible. Our partnership with Comcast enables us to reach millions of homes across the country we may not otherwise reach and empowers viewers with the resources they need to help solve cases."
The new service is modeled after Comcast's similar on Demand program, Police Blotter which features profiles of local "Most Wanted" fugitives. The Police Blotter has had a very high success rate as it leads to more than 90 criminal captures of about 1,400 cases. The Vice President of External Affairs for Comcast, Theressa Davis said that they are self-assured this too will be successful.
Missing Kids on Demand launched on Comcast in selected regional areas, including southern Colorado. The service is available in more than 25 major cities, including Denver, Portland, Washington and more. Any customer of the Comcast who has the on Demand service by following the “Get Local” tab and going to channel one can take benefit of Missing Kids on Demand.
Kyron Horman, a Portland, Oregon boy is the first featured child on the program who went missing in June. The Missing Kids on Demand program will approximately reach more than 20,000 Comcast customers across United States.
