The term Pansexual is generally used synonymously with omnisexual and pomosexual. It comes from the Greek word 'pan-' that means "all" specifically in reference to human genders. A pansexual is simply an individual who is attracted to any person as regardless of their gender identity or biological sex. Pansexual people are part of the LGBT community and have attraction for all including transsexual, transgendered, genderqueer and intersex people.
Pansexuality is a sexual/affectional orientation characterized by a potential aesthetic attraction, romantic love and/or sexual desire towards people of any sex or gender. As per the suggestion of some pansexuals, they are gender-blind; that gender and sex are unimportant or irrelevant to determine whether they will be sexually attracted to others.
Despite the pansexual individual’s wide range of sex and gender attractions, gender expression, or gender identity, sex can be a key factor of attraction for other individuals. Pansexual people encompasses all kinds of sexuality; not limited or inhibited in sexual choice with regards to gender or practice, as cited from the Oxford English Dictionary.
The adjective pansexual can also refer to an organization, event or group. The term usually indicates openness to the involvement of people of all genders and not referencing one's sexual orientation or gender in this situation. It is used as an inclusive term as opposed to bisexual.
Pansexual versus Bisexual:
Bisexuals differ from pansexuals as they have attraction only towards men and women not including transgendered, androgynous and gender fluid persons. With the inclusion of bisexuality, pansexuality additionally includes attraction to other genders and sexes for example those identifying as transgender, genderqueer, bigender, intersex, or genderfuck.
Bisexuality is mentioned as desires and self-concept, not necessarily behavior. Many bisexual individuals consider themselves to be gay or lesbian (or part of the LGBT community). An argument is also there that bisexuality is defined as neither exclusively straight nor exclusively homosexual, is the majority sexual preference, but it is typically repressed.
To this end, a concept of pansexuality has been described as a "means to skip the binaries and essentialism of 'bi'.
