Since 1990, the Ford Motor Company generates a mid-size SUV the Ford Explorer and is the most dominant SUV in North America. The fifth generation of Ford Explorer SUV, 2011 Ford Explorer is displayed on a set consisted of real trees and dirt during the unveiling at a press event in Herald Square in New York City, 26th July 2010. First, it was introduced as one of Ford’s concept cars or vehicles in the 2008 North American International Auto Show (Detroit Auto Show). The 2011 Ford Explorer was nicknamed as America concept vehicle.
During the designing of the new 2011 Explorer, the designers at Ford's product development center had a clear objective: Deliver a sleek, modern package, while maintaining the rugged looks of an SUV. Ford unveiled the Explorer at a number of media events around the United States and Canada in major markets. Peter Bejin, Ford craftsmanship supervisor said, “Every detail of the new Explorer was scrutinized. Craftsmanship - the look, the style, the feel of a well-built vehicle is a critical step in the design process. It is the key differentiator in a competitive and crowded marketplace."
The new 2011 Ford Explorer starts with the structure, the strongest, lightest one yet, thanks to high tech materials and advanced forming technology. There is the available Intelligent 4WD System and class-exclusive Terrain Management System, first seen on Land Rover models to help you handle everything from rugged off-roading to snow-covered roadways. Curve control, an enhancement to AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™, delivers improved control in turns for your peace of mind. It offers up to seven-passenger seating capacity and seats that fold down for cargo space on demand, up to 80.7 cubic feet of space.

2011 Ford Explorer engine options:
EcoBoost 2.0L turbocharged 4-cyl engine is set for most markets including Australia, US, Europe and Asia. The EcoBoost engine swanks 237 hp at 5,500 rpm and 250 lb-ft torque from 1,750 to 4,000 rpm. The fuel consumption figures are much better than the outgoing Ford Explorer V6, approximately 30 percent better as most people would expect. A thirstier 3.5L V6 version will also be made available in selected markets afterward.
The two engine options will mate with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, another ingredient in the fuel-saving recipe, plus the usual choice of rear-wheel and four-wheel drive. Ford projects fuel-economy gains of 15-30 percent versus a present V6 Explorer depending on power-team. However, rated towing capacity will be about 50 percent lower than it, Ford says: 3500 pounds max versus 7300 now.
A Notable Feature of the 2011 Ford Explorer:
The America concept sports three innovations that could plausibly bring over in some form to the 2011 Ford Explorer. This is described as “single-touch” stackable by Ford PR. These are the sliding seats that permit for well-located access to the second row; a work table with seats that deploy from the rear door; and a three-dimensional compass and direction-finding system unit with a topographical map built right into the instrument panel. The standard setup will incorporate a three-person second-row bench and a two-person third-row bench.
Release date and Price:
In the US, the 2011 Ford Explorer release date is slated for Christmas and for Australia, it look for an on-sale date in the first or second quarter of calendar 2011. It is also expected that the new 2.0L EcoBoost engine to make its way into other Ford models fated for Australia later next year. Prices have yet to be exposed. Probably, the price of the 2011 Ford Explorer may range from $27,500 to $38,000.

LATE RELEASE DATE
Anonymous — Wed, 10/06/2010 - 17:16Eager for the 2011 Explorer, but disappointed that it arrives SO LATE in the season. Those "down under" will barely get a 2011 before the 2012s hit the market. Depreciation is bad enough on vehicles without any help from a late release date.
Even with poor production planning, i remain hopeful that this new Explorer will be worth the wait. I also hope the extra time will pay off in quality... and not recalls.
At least FORD is still an independent free market automaker; that's enough for me to continue to support them, if they turn out an attractive, solid product.
