Former Vice President of India and senior Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat died today at the Sawai Man Singh Hospital in jaipur. He was admitted to a hospital in jaipur before two days of his death due to complain of uneasiness and breathing problems. Dr Narpat Singh, Superintendent of the hospital, saidthat Shekhawat breathed his last at 11.10 AM. He was 87 years old.
Shekhawat was admitted to Savai Mansingh hospital on May 13 as he was suffering from throat cancer and also chest infection. Shekhawat's condition deteriorated saturday morning and he was put on ventilator due to breathing problem. However, nothing worked and he took his last breath. Dr Pangaria said that he was died due to cardiac arrest. Shekhawat’s wife, Suraj Kanwar and son-in-law Narpat Singh Rajvee were present at the hospital during his death. Leaders of BJP have already reached to the hospital in jaipur.
Shekhawat was born on October 23, 1923, in Khachariyawas, a small village in Sikar district. He was sworn-in as the country's 12th vice-president on August 19, 2002. His possession as the chief minister of the desert state was marked by pragmatism since his government launched path-breaking policies. He was supposed to be the leader of poor. World Bank Chief Robert McNamara described him as the Rockfeller of India because of the Antyodaya scheme of his to help the poorest of the poor.
