Microsoft had released the much awaited Windows 7 to the public and the new operating system is very stable and fast. Virtualbox is an open source virtualization program from which you can generate a virtual computer, enabling you to run a split operating system within your existing OS. You may receive a warning that untested software is being installed during the installation on a Windows system. Follow the 10 steps given as under to install Windows 7 on Vmware virtualbox from start to finish:
If VirtualBox is installed and you have the Windows 7 beta CD image, then be ready to create virtual machine and install Windows 7 beta for testing purpose.
Step 1:
Open VirtualBox and click on New to start the new machine. Be sure to select Windows 7 as your operating system.
Step 2:
Just follow the onscreen instructions to install Virtual Box (it is very simple).
Type a name for the OS and select Microsoft Windows and Windows 7 for the Version. Click Next.
Step 3:
You need to allocate the memory to the new (Windows 7) virtual machine here. Depending on the amount of RAM installed on your system, you must choose the memory size. Since Microsoft recommends minimum of 1GB RAM for Windows 7, enter 1024 MB in the right-side box. Again, Click Next.
Step 4:
Next, VirtualBox will ask you to create a virtual hard disk for the virtual machine or use an existing one. Click “New” to create the new hard disk.
Step 5:
The new virtual hard disk wizard will pop up. Select Dynamically expanding storage and click Next as this storage initially occupies a very small amount of space on your physical hard disk. It will grow dynamically (up to the size specified) as the Guest OS claims disk space.
Step 6:
Select the location for the virtual disk file and the size. It is best to leave it at the recommended size. Click Next and then Finish to terminate virtual disk setup.
Step 7:
The guest OS will show as Powered Off, so click on it and select Start.
Step 8:
Select the media you would like to use for installation purpose. Select Image file option as media source as you are using Windows 7 ISO file to install. If you have Windows 7 DVD, select Host Drive letter as your DVD drive. Click Next and then finish to begin the installation procedure.
Step 9:
When you click the icon, you will be brought to the Virtual Media Manager window where you will need to click Add and browse to the location of the Windows 7 ISO file. Then choose it and click the Select button.
Step 10:
Click Next and then Click Finish. Now the ISO image will be mounted and Windows 7 installation process will start in a few seconds. Just follow the onscreen instruction to finish the installation procedure.
Now you have installed Windows 7 on Vmware virtualbox. Have fun with Windows 7!

Isn't VirtualBox a product of SUN?
Anonymous — Sat, 11/14/2009 - 13:51Your wrote about VMWare VirtualBox. But that isn't true. VMWare has their own products. VirtualBox is a product from Sun Microsystems not from VMWare. I'm a little bit confused :)
