How to play Bunco?
The following instructions will help you to play the game:
- You will have to find a group of people to play. Usually, it is played with 12 people, but for any number of people, it can be modified, as long as that number is divisible by four.
- Divide the groups into tables, with four people at each table (in a typical Bunco game, 3 tables will be needed). People across from each other are teammates. Though, keep in mind that this will change every round.
- A scorekeeper is chosen at each table. The game will also played by this person, but will be in charge of keeping track of points.
- Give each table what they'll need to play: a spiral notebook to write the score in, 3 dice, and a pencil for each of the four people at the table.
- Begin round one of the game. The three dice will be taken and rolled by one person at the table. They will want to get as many 1s as possible, as this is Round 1. They get one point for each 1 that they roll, unless they roll three 1s, which would be a 21 (the highest amount of points possible). This is called a "bunco", hence the name of the game. When a player gets a bunco, they should yell "Bunco!" Players still get five points, but not a bunco, if the player rolls three of a type, but they are not 1s.
- Let that player continue rolling until they can not score any more points (for instance, if they roll a 3, a 4, and a 6... as none of those are a 1 and they're not three of a kind, that player's turn would be over), or until 21 points are gotten by them, whether by adding their points or by rolling a bunco.
- Finish round one. The dice will be passed to the person to their left by them after the first player at the table finishes rolling. Play continues until everyone at the table has rolled.
- Continue play. Next will be round two, where everyone will be going for 2s, round 3, and so on. There are six rounds in a game of Bunco. Playing all the way to round 6 completes one hand of the game.
- Compare scores. The people with lower scores move down, and the people with the highest scores go up to the “highest” table. Keep scores by team (you and the person you're facing) and individually (now many buncos you have gotten).
- After a few rounds, pick a winner. The winner of a game of bunco usually gets some sort of door prize.
