IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System which is an international standardized test of English language proficiency. IELTS is designed to appraise the language ability of those people who require to study or work where English is used as the main language to communicate. People who want to immigrate usually take the General Training module and people who want to study abroad take the Academic module. It is your responsibility to choose the right module. So, You can choose module as per your country or institution which you have select.

IELTS will be the genuine test to verify the right level of English for your needs, when you are arranging trip to abroad, to follow further study, to take on non-academic training or work experience, to immigrate or you simply desire to test your English ability. Listening, Writing, Reading, and Speaking test will be taken. Listening and Speaking Modules are same for all candidates. In the Reading and Writing Modules, there is a choice between Academic and General Training. Two hours and 45 minutes are the total test time, excluding the speaking test. As the other sections, your speaking test may be on the same day or on a different day. To get all the information you need about the exam, you can download the IELTS exam handbook. IELTS Online Registration Guide for India:

There are multiple ways to register for IELTS so before you register Read through IELTS Handbook or Information for Candidates. Select the date and location for your IELTS test registration options. You can choose from the following:

  • Register online
  • Register in person at your nearest British Council office
  • Register by post / courier

Send your complete IELTS Application Form by post/courier to your nearest British Council office. The application will be processed upon receipt and your seat will be allocated subject to availability.

Documents Required:

If you register online, on the test day you will require to bring:

  • A photocopy of your original and valid passport
  • Two passport size color photographs (not older than six months)

If you are registering in person or by post / courier, you need:

  • Two passport size color photographs (not older than six months)
  • A completed and signed application form
  • A photocopy of your original and valid passport

Fee:

IELTS fee is INR 7200 payment options such as credit card, icici bank, and demand draft

Please note: If you register online and would like to pay through the ICICI bank or by demand draft, the payment should reach them within 3 days of the online registration at the latest. Demand draft should be made in favor of British Council Division and payable at:

  • New Delhi for test centres in North India
  • Kolkata for test centres in East India
  • Mumbai for test centres in West India
  • Chennai for test centres in South India

Important Information:

  • A valid passport is the only document which is acceptable in India for IELTS registration
  • IELTS does not accept applications by e-mail, fax or phone
  • As seats are on first come first served basis, we recommend that you register two weeks in advance
  • If you would like to request for additional copies of your results - up to a maximum of five (5) copies - to be sent to universities abroad free of charge then please include the relevant addresses on your application form. This service is only offered for free at the time of registration or on the day of the exam.
  • IELTS is not applicable for candidates under the age of 16
  • Please ensure that you give a courier serviceable address on the application form

Register for IELTS:

For registration, there are five steps at www.ielts.britishcouncil.org.in website. Such as:

  • Select exam date
  • Rules and Regulations
  • Personal Details
  • Check Details
  • Pay & Finish

First of all, in the "select exam date" step, you have to select exam date, which suits you. In "Rules and Regulations" step, you have to know about its rules and regulations and agree them. Then you can enter your personal details in "personal details" step. After entering your personal details, you have to confirm details in "check details" step. Then you can make your examination payment in the "pay & finish" step.

After registration, you have three options to pay the test fee, which are as follows:

Option 1.) - Register online and pay the test fee by Credit Card (Master / VISA)

This is the most suitable way to register, as you are allowed to register at your convenience by it. You can get immediate seat confirmation without waiting. But for that, you must have a valid Credit card with you to avail the online booking facility.

Procedure

  • Log on to www.IELTSIdpIndia.com from your home, office, cyber cafe, your training institute etc.
  • Select the option "Apply on-line"
  • Select your test date (you will see the seat availability status)
  • Fill the on-line form
  • Pay the test fee by credit card (Master / Visa)
  • Get instant seat booking and acknowledgement

Important

If you have not submitted already, you must bring the following along with you on the day of the test

  • Photocopy of your Passport (first 3 pages), AND any observation pages
  • 2, recent photographs, passport sized (please write your Name and Passport number on the reverse of your Photo)

If you have missed some details to submit, then you will not be allowed to sit the test.

Once your registration is complete you will see a confirmation on your computer screen (you must print and bring this on the day of the test). A copy of the confirmation will also be sent on the E-mail ID, which is provided by you at the time of filing the application form. In case you had provided your Mobile Phone number, you will also receive a SMS alert.

Option 2.) - Register in Person at Test Centre office or Input Node

This is also a suitable way to register, as you are also allowed to get immediate seat confirmation and pay the test fee by Credit card and also using your Debit card / ATM card by this system.

Procedure

Walk into any Test Centre offices or the nearest Input Node and use any of the following methods to register:

Method – I.)

  • Register online using the computer at the office and make payment of test fee by Credit card, get immediate confirmation of your seat (this is just like online registration)
  • Hand over to the staff, 2 recent passport sized photographs (write your Passport number, your Name on the reverse of the Photo)
  • Hand over Photocopy of your Passport (first 3 pages) AND any observation pages.
  • Take the instant acknowledgement letter confirming your seat in the test.

Method – II

  • Take an application form and complete the same
  • Sign the terms and conditions sheet attached to the application form.
  • Attach 2 recent photographs, passport sized (write your Passport number and your Name on the reverse of the Photo)
  • Attach Photocopy of your Passport (first 3 pages) AND any observation pages
  • Pay the test fee either;
    • by Credit card or Debit card / ATM card, or
    • by Demand Draft (demand draft must be drawn in favour of "IELTS India Project, Payable at New Delhi")

Request the staff to enter your application form in the online registration system immediately and give you the acknowledgement of your booking and a tentative seat reservation, thereby ensuring a seat for yourself. Please note that your confirmation will be subject to the realization of the Bank draft (if you have paid the fee by bank draft)

Option 3.) - Register by Courier and pay test fee by Demand Draft

Procedure

  • Download the application form from http://www.IELTSIdpIndia.com. Alternately, collect the application form, from the nearest Test Centre office, Training Institute, Agent or Input Node.
  • Complete the application form
  • Sign the application form and the Test terms and conditions sheet attached to the form
  • Attach Photocopy of your Passport (first 3 pages) AND any observation pages
  • Attach 2 recent photographs, passport sized (write your Passport number and your Name on the reverse of the Photo)
  • Attach the Demand Draft for the test fee (demand draft must be drawn in favour of "IELTS India Project, Payable at New Delhi")
  • Send the completed application form with all attachments and the test fee to;
    • IDP : IELTS Australia Test Centre - Planet EDU
    • 101, Greenwood Plaza, Greenwood City, Sector 45, Gurgaon - 122001, Haryana

The application will be processed upon receipt and the seat allotment for your selected date will be subject to availability
