The Punjab Government has organized the 2010 Kabaddi World Cup tournament in Punjab. The match is hosted by Punjab Government at different venues of the state from April 3 to April 12. The opening match will take place in Patiala stadium and the closing ceremony will take place at the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana on April 12. The winning team will receive a prize of Rs.1 crore. On first Kabaddi World cup, Punjab government has received a great response with as many as 15 private sponsors gain in the event. The opening ceremony will be played at the Yadvindra Public School in Patiala on April 3 from 6 to 10 p.m.
Punjab Government tries to get the fame of the Kabaddi game at international level that it can be added to the Olympic Games. The second and third runner-up team will get the prize of Rs.25 lakh and Rs.10 lakh. The ten other international team also participate in the World Cup including, UK, Canada, Iran, Australia, Italy, Spain, Norway, US and Pakistan.
State Deputy Chief Minister & Sports Deputy minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said, 'The Kabaddi World Cup will begin around the end of March and continue till the first week of April. Punjab has given gradation to Kabaddi which was denied to it for the past 62 years.' He also added, "WCKP will now be an annual feature and from next year more countries will be invited to the event. All matches will be telecasted live on PTC network and the highlights of the matches will also be shown daily."
WCKP-2010 Organising Vice Chairpersons said, “Stringent action will be taken against those who test positive.” Basically, in this game, two teams with seven players sending a single prowling wrestler into the other is half of the field to tag or pin down an opponent and then return to his own side while holding his breath.
