Karnataka Premier League (KPL) has been started from yesterday. KPL is the state’s own version of IPL. KPL’s two matches was at the M Chinnaswamy stadium yesterday. KPL will be played from September 9th to 23rd 2009.

For the first edition, a total money prize of Rs. 20 lakh offered with the winner taking home Rs 8 lakh and the runner-up half that amount. Indian cricket star Gautam Gambhir has revealed a new gold trophy for the Karnataka Premier League.Nevertheless, the BCCI denied its nod to KPL. Some cricketers such as Anil Kumble and J Srinath slammed KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association) for launching KPL.

KPL‘s eight teams are Mangalore United, Shamanur Davangere Diamonds, Mysore Maharajas, Ground : Bangalore Provident, Malnad Gladiators, Ground : Bangalore Brigadiers, Belgavi Panthers, and Bijapur Bulls.

Karnataka Premier League has been launched with theme song which holds cricket, fireworks, music and masti with the catchy KPL anthem starring Puneeth Rajkumar, Shivrajkumar, Yash, Sharmila Mandre, Diganth and Aindrita Ray set to kick off things.
