Fuel prices in India are rising day by day so more and more people prefer to buy a diesel car (as price of diesel is less than petrol in most of metro cities in India) which augmented the demand for diesel engine cars with a sudden speed. Therefore, India based car manufacturers have started to include diesel engines in their existing cars and forthcoming small to high-end luxury car models. Maruti, India’s leading carmaker is coming with new plan of releasing a diesel engine car, Maruti Wagon R diesel version at low price. The price of Maruti Wagon R diesel will be around 4 to 5 lakhs and will come in middle of 2012.
Maruti Wagon R diesel is going to be the first Maruti India’s diesel car at hatchback segment entry level and the most inexpensive diesel hatchback car of India. In India, after Maruti Alto, Wagon R is the bestselling car. This diesel version will include 1L, 1000cc engine which will be more fuel economical compared to existing petrol, LPG & CNG engine models. It is expected to have fuel efficiency of about 25KMPL which will bring down the running costs significantly.
The company has not revealed any specifications of the car but it is expected to have same exteriors and interiors. Diesel engines last longer and provide greater torque & 20% to 30% higher fuel efficiency compared to petrol / LPG / CNG engines. The company has launched CNG model of Wagon R in the Indian market but CNG kit has affected the pickup, performance, and resale value of the car so diesel engine is better alternative.
Maruti Wagon R diesel car will be a great competitor of cars like Chevrolet Beat and Hyundai Eon. By near future, the company will include diesel engines in its popular small cars such as Maruti A-Star, Maruti Zen Estilo.
