One of the most reliable car manufacturers of India, Maruti Suzuki is going to launch the Diesel version of Maruti Wagon R to provide diesel cars in the low priced segment in Indian market. Wagon R is 2nd bestselling car and 3rd cheapest car of the company. Maruti Wagon R Diesel is especially designed for Indian market as the price of petroleum is touching the sky. It will come in May or June, 2012 with a price tag of below 4 lakhs.
Maruti Wagon R Diesel is the most reasonably priced diesel hatchback car of India. The company already has the Ritz and Swift hatchback cars with diesel engine. These both cars starting price is above Rs 5 lakhs, which is pretty huge price for an average middle class family of India. Maruti Wagon R Diesel has a starting price below four lakhs, which makes it an affordable car for middle class family. It is the company’s first diesel car at the entry-level hatchback segment.
Wagon R diesel version is expected to have the same interior and exterior like other versions. Only the engine and fuel consumption of the diesel variant will be different. Wagon R diesel may be powered with the 1.3-liter multi-jet diesel engine (found in Chevrolet Beat Diesel) with 3-cylinder and 4 variants. This engine will generate maximum power of 58.5 PS and 150 Nm of torque. The power of the diesel engine will be less than petrol engine variants of Wagon R.
The torque will be 66% more so the car will provide much better pulling power thus the performance. The running cost of the car will be also low and the mileage is expected to boost to 25kmpl, which makes it most fuel efficient hatchback of India. No information about specifications and launch date of the Wagon R Diesel have been released by the company. This car will be best for the people who want a Maruti Suzuki diesel car but cannot afford the Swift/Ritz.
