Indian Railways is going to launch new ticket reservation service named E-Ticketing Service which will filter out travel agents. E-Ticketing Service will let the passengers to book their tickets on the portal. This service will be available on IndianRailways.gov.in, between 12.30 AM and 11.30 PM daily. There is no role of travel agents and commercial organizations in this new service. E-Ticketing Service launch will be announced after the needed clearances for payment gateway transactions are obtained.

Travel agents have misused IRCTC E-ticketing service. They pre-book the tickets to sell them at premium rates so travel agents have been banned to book Tatkal tickets during peak hours on the IRCTC portal. This new service E-Ticketing service is expected to cure the widespread threat led by Travel agents. The users have to register themselves to use the service for the 1st time then they can use their user account to use various services. The registration is totally free of cost.

The user will be allowed to make up to 8 transactions per month per user ID in the early days. Service charges of this new service for sleeper class will be Rs 5/- per ticket and for all other classes Rs 10/- per ticket. The service charges are 50% less compared to IRCTC reservation portal. For booking tickets from mobile phones, a mobile application will also be made available which is needed to be downloaded by using Internet facilities from the website of Indian Railways.

Tracking facility for freight trains running and parcel shipment status is also provided by E-Ticketing Service. As per Indian Railways, the project will combine all the services and information through a single window interface for public. This service will ease traffic and pressure from the IRCTC website by providing another avenue to book tickets.
