About Nickelodeon

Nickelodeon (Nick in short) is an American Cable TV network owned by Viacom and mostly for children. In 1977, the network was started as Pinwheel and later on April 1, 1981 it was known as Nickelodeon. The channel is meant generally for children ages 6–12, with the exclusion of their prime time block that is aimed at teenagers ages 13–17. The first Nickelodeon channel was American, but there are now numerous channels in varied countries like Japan, Australia, and UK.

Nick at present (as of 2009) has three blocks: Nick at Nite, Nick's Play Date, and the Hollywood Hang. The network makes a magazine known as Nickelodeon Magazine. The magazine was started in 1993, following a short-lived effort from 1990. It also has events and special programs every year, for example, the Kids Choice Awards.
