An American investigative journalist, Kitty Kelley is an author of several best-selling unauthorized biographies of celebrities and politicians. The profile of her recurrently contains unflattering personal anecdotes and details so it is described as a "poison pen" biographer and their accuracy is often questioned. Kelley's many books have topped the best sellers’ list but her credibility and sources have been called into question multiple times.
Oprah Winfrey is a television host, producer and philanthropist. She is best known for her international philanthropic work and the almost amazing success of almost all of her enterprises. Various times, she has been called the most prosperous African Americans of the 20th century and the most influential woman in the world. Winfrey’s book club, has often been attributed with the power to sell more copies of books she mentions than any other single source.
Kitty Kelley’s latest unauthorized celebrity biography on Oprah Winfrey intends to hut some light on a woman who is hugely famous and powerful. Kelley says that Oprah’s life is nevertheless “choked with secrets,” and she digs them out in her new book, “Oprah: A Biography.” Speaking with Matt Lauer on 12th April Monday, Kelley said that “There are so many secrets in her life, secrets about her relationships, secrets within her family,” “Even when she was writing her own autobiography, and she was finally going to come forward, she described herself as a ‘prostitute,’ which is a rather harsh description, I think.”
It was said by Kitty that she interviewed over 850 people for “Oprah: A Biography” – including Oprah’s father, Vernon Winfrey, and Oprah’s cousin Katharine Carr Esters, nicknamed Aunt Katharine and also quotes friends and employees -- some on the record, others not -- to get a glimpse inside Winfrey's closely guarded world. The most shocking assertions in the book are Aunt Katharine’s allegation that Vernon Winfrey is not the talk show host’s biological father.
Also Kitty said that “I spent three days with her, and over that time she told me who Oprah’s real father was and swore me to secrecy”. “So here I am writing a book about a secret keeper and I get pulled in and I keep a secret myself.” It was also claimed by Kitty that Oprah had a relationship with entertainment news journalist/musician John Tesh in the ‘70s. On the Daily News, Tesh confirmed their relationship by telling the, “Oprah and I were cub reporters in Nashville nearly 40 years ago and we dated for a short time…We remain friends to this day.”
By commenting on the book in the May issue of O magazine, Oprah saying, “It just so happens that there’s a new biography, which I did not approve, and I hear that 850 people were interviewed for it. I don’t know 850 people! My circle is tight, tight, and tight. If there are 850 people talking about you, it can’t all be good.”
A representative for the talk show queen said, “We are declining to comment on the book.” when Access Hollywood reached out to Oprah on Monday.
