The registration of children for admission to Primary One classes in 2011 has opened from Tuesday, 6th July 2010 and it will close on Monday, 30th August 2010. According to Ministry of Education, there will be sufficient school places for all eligible Primary One students. For 2011 registration, the cohort size is similar to that for 2010.
The information on the Primary One Registration Exercise is available as an insert of the Primary School Education booklet. The booklets containing the registration information have been distributed to all kindergartens and childcare centers.
Primary One Registration Exercise 2010:
During the registration period, all primary and full schools will open for registration from 8.00 am to 11.00 am and from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm from Mondays to Fridays. Annex A gives the dates for the different phases of registration.
Details including the list of primary schools and vacancies available can be found on the Primary One Registration website.
Age Requirement:
All children born between 2nd January 2004 and 1st January 2005 (both dates inclusive) are due for registration for Primary One next year. Singapore citizens born after 1st Jan 1996 and residing in Singapore are required to attend national primary schools regularly Under the Compulsory Education Act.
In 2011, One New School and Three Relocating Schools:
In 2011, one new school, Cantonment Primary School, will open in the Bukit Merah area. Also, three primary schools, namely CHIJ Primary (Toa Payoh), De La Salle School and St. Anthony’s Canossian Primary School will be relocating to and functioning from temporary locations in 2011.
Registration centers for the new and relocating schools are listed in Annex B.
Registration Procedures:
Parents who want to register their children under Phase 1 may submit the registration form and relevant documents through the older sibling who will be given the form by the school. A parent or a person authorized by the parent in writing is to submit the registration form and relevant documents at the school of choice for registration under Phase 2A (1) to Phase 3. Each child should be registered at only one school at any one time and if the child is registered at more than one school, he may lose his place in the school of choice.
For admission to Primary One in January 2011, International students who were born between 2 January 2004 and 1 January 2005, and are age-appropriate for Primary 1 in 2011, may apply to the school of choice during Phase 3 of this year’s Primary One Registration Exercise.
Documents Required for Registration:
At the time of registration, parents must produce the originals of each required document. Before entry into Primary One, all children (Singapore Citizen and Non-Singapore Citizen) should have completed immunisation for BCG, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, poliomyelitis, measles, mumps, rubella and hepatitis B (list of immunisation requirements) with reference to Singapore’s National Childhood Immunisation Schedule.
Therefore, Parents should make sure that their children have these immunisations before admission to school. Immunisation can be done at any polyclinic or at any private clinic. At the time of registration, documentary evidence of immunisation (original or duplicate copy downloaded from the National Immunisation Registry website) should be produced for inspection.
Allocation of Places:
According to the order of priority spelt out in the various phases of the Primary One Registration Exercise, children will be allocated places. If the number of applications to a school exceeds the number of vacancies available in any of the phases from Phase 2A(1) to Phase 2C Supplementary, balloting will be conducted amongst the applicants.
At the end of Phase 2A (2), the remaining places in each school will be allocated equally for Phase 2B registrants and Phase 2C registrants in the school. If the number of qualifying applicants in Phase 2B exceeds, successful applicants will be determined first by proximity category of residence to the school and then by ballot. In the event, any places not taken up during Phase 2B will be added to the places allocated for Phase 2C.
For the 2010 Primary One Registration Exercise, the number of Primary One places that each school will offer can be found at the Primary One Registration Exercise’s School Vacancies webpage.
Parents can find out more information about statutory declaration for registration using the address of the grandparent or parent’s sibling, and registration for overseas Singaporeans via Teletext (Channel 8, page 720) or through the Primary One Registration Exercise website.
