Quick & Easy Mulled Wine Recipe

FaceBookTwitter

A traditional warm drink, Mulled Wine is made from red wine and a mixture of sugar & spices. Mulled wine is served at Christmas and in winter months.  “Mulled” means that the wine (generally red) is heated and spiced. Mulled Wine is delicious in taste and easy to make. In a snowy winter evening, mulled wine is often enjoyed as a festive tradition. Cold weather is chased by people with one glass of this steaming beverage. Mulled Wine Recipe is varied with a multitude of cultures.

Mulled Wine can be made by several methods. In one method, first of all red wine is heated then spices are added. This recipe is the best because all the spices are powdered so dissolve easily. In second method, sugar and spices are boiled in a small amount of water for few minutes, and then the red wine is added. Then the mixture is heated for several more minutes. This recipe is also best due to all the spices are boiled enough to release their flavors. In third method, whole spices and pieces of fruit are wrapped in cheesecloth, and then some sugar and the wine are added in it. Then heat the mixture over low heat for several minutes, and before serving, remove the bag of spices.

Mulled Wine Recipe first method:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 pinch nutmeg

Directions:

Prep Time: 3 mins
Total Time: 5 mins

Preparation:

Take a heatproof jug or a saucepan, put all ingredients in it. According to taste, you can alter the proportion of orange juice to red wine. Keep microwave on high for 1 1/2 - 2 minutes or heat in a saucepan on the stove until steaming but not boiling. Then mix it and pour into wine glasses and serve.

Mulled Wine Recipe second method:

Ingredients:

  • One bottle (750 ml) of red wine (suggestions: Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Merlot)
  • 8-10 cloves
  • 2/3 cup honey or sugar
  • One peeled and sliced orange (keep peel to add zest to taste into cooking pot)
  • 1/4 cup of brandy
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp fresh or 2 tsp ground ginger (all spice can be substituted)
  • Serves 4-6

Directions:

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

Preparation:

Take a large pot or a slow cooker; put all ingredients in it to make the perfect cup of mulled wine. Put this pot on oven and gently warm the ingredients on low to medium heat for 20-25 minutes but do not boil it. Mix it infrequently to ensure that the honey or sugar has completely dissolved. It is ready to serve, when the wine is steaming and the ingredients have been well blended. Then enjoy the mulled wine.

Mulled Wine Recipe third method:

Ingredients:

  • 2 bottles dry red wine
  • 4 ounces port or brandy
  • 12 whole cloves
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 large orange, zested

Directions:

Prep Time: 5 min
Cook Time: 20 min
Total Time: 25 min

Preparation:

Take a large pot, combine ingredients in it and put it on microwave. Stream it but do not boil the mixture. Heat it for 20 minutes and serve in a large, heat resistant punch bowl.
