The Samsung officially announced its Android based portable media player called 'Galaxy Player 50' that will be released first in German market from this October 2010. The price of this galaxy player 50 will be at 229 Euros for the 8 GB and 299 Euros for the 16 GB version.
New Samsung Galaxy Player 50 will be powered by Android 2.1 like the Samsung YP-MB2 and comes with a 3.2-inch display. It will be able to handle DivX, H.264 and other media formats including MP3, OGG, AAC, M4A, WAV audio and MPEG4, H.263, WMV, and XviD video as well as your standard audio and video formats. It has other features like 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, a 2-megapixel camera, Android Market support, Google Maps Navigation and Gmail.
You can choose either of 8GB or 16GB version of internal storage. There is also a micro SD card slot in the Samsung Galaxy Player 50 that can take up to 32GB microSD cards, which will give you total storage of either 40GB or 48GB. It is expected that the Android Market will be improved if it were to be able to hold a decent challenge against the App Store.
Samsung Galaxy Player 50 offers Wi-Fi to wireless download content from other devices including photos, videos and music. It comes with single two megapixel camera unlike iPod touch dual camera. You can also take photos and videos with the 2 Megapixel camera. These photos and videos can be shared to the other devices like mobile phones and PCs by using the DLNA-based Allshare function.
The Galaxy Player 50 (model YP-G50) features DivX support which will come with ThinkFree office bundled into the software, and provides access to Google services and the Android Market. According to the reports, Samsung is planning the Galaxy S-like YP-MB2 PMP, but the Galaxy Player 50 shown at IFA 2010 is clearly not the same as the MB2, although it does have a similar look.
