Well, the 3G revolution in India is definitely working well for all the major mobile handset manufacturers but there is one company that has done excessively well in releasing cheap 3G phones in the country. Adding another jewel to its treasure-box, Samsung has unveiled the newest offering in the Star series, the Samsung Star S5603.
The phone is an enhanced version of the Samsung Star with the enhancements not only being in the name but also in the features that the phone provides. The phone is sleek and a beauty of a device, with the 2.8" touchscreen 102.8 x 54.8 x 12.9 mm size and completely smooth and shiny finish. The phone comes with a 3.2MP camera with LED flash. The phone supports video telephony which is the same feature that Apple's iPhone4 was boasting about at the WWDC. The phone supports the crystal clear QVGA resolution with brilliant 262 colors.
The phone uses the TouchWiz user interface that provides excellent navigation on the phone. The touch screen uses the Haptic feedback while touching the screen. The Haptics enables the device to lend a vibration response to touch. The phone even supports the embedded widgets feature that the iPhone was boasting about during the WWDC. The phone comes with a gesture lock feature that enables a user to unlock the phone using alphabet recognition. One can assign respective alphabets to the applications and access them by simply typing the alphabet on the screen. As an example, if the letter F has been set for inbox, drawing F on the screen would not only unlock the phone but also take the user directly to the assigned inbox, a unique feature in many respects.
The flipping between the landscape and portrait views can be achieved by just rotating the phone. The phone comes with plenty of pre-loaded widgets that can give you an easy access to stocks, news forecasts etc. the phone comes with the accelerometer sensor and mobile blogging capability. One that was necessary, seeing the demand of the availability of bloggers all round the clock. The phone even supports FM radio with RDS that cuts down the fad that usually accompanies the radio channels. The phone has an internal memory of 80MB that is expandable to 16 GB via a Micro SD card. The phone is a 1000 mAh li-ion battery that gives a talk time of as much as 3 hours and a standby time of 300 hrs.
The phone supports excellent music quality that is provided courtesy the DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine) technology used in speaker phones. For the lovers of good music, the phone has a music library and music recognition features too. Its sloped and contoured sides and bottom enhance the looks of the phone a great deal. As far as connectivity goes, it has Bluetooth, an application for PC sync and most importantly an HTML browser for the internet which uses the 3G (HSPDA) connectivity. The most astonishing of all the features of the phone is the price for which it is available that is 11K, unexpectedly cheap seeing the features that come along.
It seems that Samsung has again come out as a winner in the manufacture of feature packed economy phones in India. All Hail Samsung at least for this one!!
