SETC stands for State Express Transport Corporation, which is a unit of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation. Formerly State Express Transport Corporation Limited was identified as Thiruvalluvar Transport Corporation which runs long distance express services above 250 km and exceeding throughout the state of Tamil Nadu connecting all important capital cities, historical places, religious places and commercial places, etc. and also neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and the Union Territory of Pondicherry.
Semi-Deluxe, Super-Deluxe, Video coach and Ultra deluxe buses are operated by SETC. The main headquarter of the SETC is located in the State of Tamil Nadu with Chennai and established in the year 1975. Erstwhile Tamilnadu State Transport Department operated the long distance express services, which was shifted as the Express wing of Pallavan Transport Corporation with result from 15th September, 1975. On 14th January 1980, the express wing of Pallavan Transport Corporation was listed and named as Thiruvalluvar Transport Corporation.
Bus ticket reservation of SETC can be done from SETC computer reservation counters or through SETC assigned agents in various cities of Tamilnadu like Cuddalore, Devakotai, Eral, Karaikkal, Karaikudi, Karungal, Kumili, Madukkur, Monday market, Mutalore, Narerath and other locations within Tamilnadu. Bus tickets agents are also available in the Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh. Currently, credit cards facility is not available. Bus ticket reservation is only available in person from SETC counters.
During all festival seasons, State Express Tamilnadu Corporation operates special Buses for the convenience of passengers and tourists. During the month of August and September, Special bus routes are Chennai to Velankani, Chennai to Palani, Guruvayur, Rameshwaram, and Tirupathi all year with frequency of buses on daily basis. Through the month of December and January, special bus services for Chennai to Sabarimalai are also available.

SETC online ticket booking reservation rules:
- Reservation done 30 days in advance.
- Reservation time from 7.00 hrs to 21.00 hrs at all reservation centers.
- Half ticket for children 3 yrs above but below 12 yrs, children above 130cms Height will be charged full fare.
Cancellation and Refund rules:
- 50% deduction of fare for journey tickets submitted to the counter between 30 minutes before and after the schedule time of departure of the bus.
- 25% deduction of fare for journey tickets submitted to the counter between 30 minutes and 24 Hrs of the schedule time of departure of the bus.
- 20% deduction of fare for journey tickets submitted to the counter between 24 Hrs and 48 Hrs of the schedule time of departure of the bus.
- 10% deduction of fare for journey tickets submitted to the counter before 48 hours of the schedule time of departure of the bus.
