Overview of an opening ceremony of Shanghai World Expo 2010:

With the attendance of several world leaders, on April 30, 2010 the opening ceremony was held, which consisted of an indoor and outdoor component and President Hu Jintao declared to start the Shanghai World Expo.

Meaning of World Expo:

The term Expo refers to a range of big public exhibitions held since the mid-19th century. In 1851, the first Expo was held in The Crystal Palace in Hyde Park under the title “Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations”. Following the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games, Shanghai World Expo 2010 is the third leading event in the world in terms of economic and cultural impact. The World Expo is being administered by the International Exhibitions Bureau.

The sub-themes of the Expo are as follows:

• Economic prosperity in the city
• Remodelling of communities in the city
• Blending of diverse cultures in the city
• Interactions between urban and rural areas
• Innovations of science and technology in the city

Shanghai World Expo 2010 will be a striking international gathering as 70 to100 million visitors are estimated to visit the expo and above 190 countries and over 50 international organizations have registered to take part in the Expo. 2010 Expo covers the area of nearly Square 5.28 km.

Expo 2010 will throw in to human-centered development, scientific & technological innovation, cultural diversity & win-win cooperation for a better future, highlighting innovation & interaction in the new century and more. In order to serve the traffic demands of the event, enormous construction of new metro and train lines have been undertaken including different operations of city improvement.
