Gems:
Collecting Gems is very interesting part in the Sims 3. Gems can be found in a rough state. When Gems will be collected, they can be sent to a jeweler to be cut, for a fee. All cuts are not gainful for all gems Because of the fee. There is one challenge associated with gem collecting: Gem Collector. Once you have collected all types of gems, Gem Collector will unlock the heart-shaped cut. For this cause, be sure to hold on to any gems worth over $250. Caliban provided this information at the Forum. For optimal profit, look to the table for when you should use what cut depending on the gem's value. Use the higher level of the two cuts, when your Sim has both cuts available. The gem must be valued at break even price means to make no profit and take no loss. Gems cut are under the break-even with one exception so usually avoid getting them. In order to unlock each new type of cut, the emerald cut is used on any low value gems to reach a certain number of cuts.

New Gem Cuts
Spire Cut: Spire Cut is used for Tiberium and creates a gem about 70x the value of the base. When tiberium costs $6,500 to cut, this seems ridiculous but when the gem grows, the value will increase yet again. With a value of $100, a tiberium would be made to cost roughly $7000 then jump up to $35000 after growth. When Tiberium starts valued even 20 simoleons higher, large increments amplified the cut due to these multiplers.
Polished Split Cut: Due to the 2.4 multiplier ,use on Geodes and Septarian Nodules which have a value of at least $33 to make a profit. For those two gem types, this cut is unlocked at start.
Skull Cut: Created by transfiguration. This will increase a gem to 10x is value. Similar to the heart-shaped cut, it is twice powerful, when employed it can produce an amazing profit.
Tiberium Gems:
Tiberium hails from EA's Command and Conquer series. Tiberium Gems are a source of radioactive energy and if it is included in Sim's inventory, it can cause radiation sickness. If it has seen some travel time, Raw, Uncut tiberium can grow on its own without doing anything special to it. If you got it from adventuring, then you will generally not need to cut it. Tiberium comes with two cuts, which are accessible to it. In the place of Tiberium Gems, you can choose between the spire cut, which is unique to Tiberium, or the heart shaped cut but heart cut is the best choice due to it will still grow, much cheaper, purifies the tiberium as well as the regular spire and allows it to grow into a large spire cut with a massive value.
Tiberium is free to grow, once your Sim has made the initial investment of getting it cut into the heart or spire shape. It will zip in value up to around $40,000 Simoleons within a couple days, when it will be placed on the ground. Without toying with transfiguration, it is the single most profitable item in the game. It is unclear as yet whether this is a bug or feature. With a display case, you can get tiberium from the ground on travel destinations, from the relic vendor in Egypt, from breaking space rock blocks or by transfiguring items.
