The 97th Tour De France 2010 will start on 3rd July at Rotterdam and end on 25th July in Paris. The Tour De France announced that the 22 teams will compete in cycling race and six teams have gotten wild card invitations. The Tour de France is the world's greatest cycling race held in France. Every year, hundreds of thousands of locals and holidaymakers visit France to watch the cyclists and 'caravan' of floats, media, cars etc. Millions of viewers are attracted by this event which is one of Europe's great media circus acts and worth millions of Euros in advertising, sponsorship and worldwide television rights.
The 2010 Tour covers a distance of 3596 km, in 21 stages, about 150 km longer than the 2009 route. This year the race will visit a total of 6 nations including, France, Monaco, Switzerland, Andorra, Spain, and Italy. There will be seven mountain stages with three uphill finishes, and one medium-mountain stage. This year 22 teams will participate in the Tour de France.Tour winner of 2009, Alberto Contador will again compete for the Astana team of Kazakhstan.
Team Sky has been awarded a place in this year's Tour de France by race organizers A.S.O. The Team was also awarded a four-year UCI Pro License in the autumn at the Tour Down Under in January.
