Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc. announced Tuesday in the United States that, Toyota dealers currently suspend sales of eight largely new models involved in the recall for sticking accelerator pedal problem. Toyota is one of the world’s largest automakers, recalled the same eight models, last week including 2.3 million of its cars and trucks in the United States and about 270,000 in Canada because of the sticking accelerator pedal problem.
The sticking accelerator pedal comes in rare case of mechanically sticking in a partially depressed position without the presence of a floor mat. Toyota Motor Corporation spokesman Brian Lyons says that the recall comes only few months after Toyota issued a larger 4.2 million-vehicle recall because of pedals getting stuck due to insecure floor mats. This problem's main cause was the several crashes, including some victims. Toyota has also stopped their car production at five different factories located in Texas, Kentucky, Indiana and Canada.
The Vice President and Toyota Division General Manager Bob Carter said, “This action is necessary until a remedy is finalized. We’re making every effort to address this situation for our customers as quickly as possible.” The Toyota Japan company are not involved in this problem, but in the Europe a similar sticking accelerator problem spread.
Toyota spokesman Brian Lyons said that automaker does not yet have a solution to the latest problem but is working to develop one. Lexus Division or Scion vehicles were not affected by the actions. Toyota said it was planning sales of 8.27 million vehicles in 2010, up 6% from 2009.
