On 28 February 2010, the Unemployment Extension actually ended so everyone is waiting for another Unemployment Extension. However, this is not confirmed that the Unemployment Extension is ended. To extend the Unemployment Extension benefits, both House and Senate are working on bills now. Unemployment benefits were expired as of 28 February that benefits were for 400000 people.
For the extended benefits, the argument is over the funding mechanism. The uncertainty of an extension have affected the Unemployment insurance agency. Under the assumption that benefits could be ending, Agencies begins to winding down the program but it must also be ready to dump these plans instantly should a new expansion be passed.
A county workforce development official said that at Clark County’s WorkPlus Center, there is a new feeling of desperation as unemployed workers faced the possible end of unemployment benefits. For another extension, Congress had not approved plans, said by workers, who have seen extensions to unemployment benefits since mid-2008. Deputy Director of workforce development at the Clark County Department of Job and Family Services, Lehan Peters said, “I can tell you that the volume of (individuals) in our resource room has been incredible in the last few weeks” and “They’re saying, ‘we have to find a job now; our benefits are running out.’ ”
State Job and Family Services Director Douglas Lumpkin said, “This is an extremely unfortunate situation for thousands of Ohio’s families, who still are suffering the effects of the national economic downturn,” and “Ohio’s unemployed workers need these benefits to help them weather the storm while they continue to search for employment. We encourage Congress to take immediate action to help them.”
