About Westpac

Westpac is a multinational financial services company, after it took over St.George Bank, became the largest bank in Australia (by market capitalization) and the second-largest bank in New Zealand. The bank is one of the Australian 'big four' banks, joining NAB, ANZ, and the Commonwealth Bank. The Dow Jones Sustainability Index recognized Westpac as the most sustainable bank in the world for five years running, until ANZ who shared the title in 2007 was solely awarded in 2008.

As the Bank of New South Wales with a single office in Macquarie Place, Sydney, on 8 April, 1817, trading was begun by Westpac. Its name was changed to Westpac Banking Corporation with the merger of the Commercial Bank of Australia in 1982. The registration was made as a public company under the Australian Corporations Act (2001) by Westpac on 23 August 2002.
