In Ireland, Bus Éireann, provides bus services with the exemption of those operated totally inside the Dublin Region, which are provided by Dublin Bus. Bus Eireann Fares:
Under sixteen years of age, children are charged for fares at such special child rates because they may be specified from time to time. If the child does not occupy a seat to the exclusion of another passenger or accompanied by and in the charge of a fare-paying passenger, less than three years of age will be carried free.
If a responsible person aged 16 years or over carries Children less than 12 years of age according Bus Éireann services (All Expressway services, Non-Expressway services), then Children under 12 years of age will be carried otherwise they will not be carried. For fares, you have to click here.
Types of tickets:
Single tickets: For one single journey, Single Tickets are valid on date of issue as publicized by fare paid and/or additional details on the ticket.
Return Tickets: For one outward and one inward journey only, Return Tickets are valid. For two journeys in the same direction, they are not valid.
Ordinary Return Tickets: For one outward journey on date of issue as publicized by fare paid and/or additional details on the ticket, and for return journey for up to one month from date of outward travel, ordinary Return Tickets (monthly validity) are valid.
Midweek Return Tickets: For travel on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only, Midweek Return Tickets are valid. Passengers must pay an excess fare equal to the difference between the Midweek Return fare and the appropriate ordinary return fare for the journey traveled, who wish to return on other days within one month of the date of outward journey. On certain services operated jointly with Ulsterbus and on other specified routes as notified from time to time, Midweek Return Tickets are not issued.
Day Return Tickets: For one outward journey on date of issue as shown by fare paid and/or other details on the ticket, and for return journey on the same day, Day Return Tickets are valid. With an excess fare ticket, Passengers who wish to return on another day will not be issued.
Student Single and Return Tickets: at discounted fares on production of any one of the following forms of identification such as a current International Student Identity Card (ISIC),a Translink Student Identity Card, a City/National Student Travelcard, or a valid Student Identity Card, Student Single and Return Tickets are issued.
Weekly (10 Journey) Tickets: For 10 journeys as specified, and as shown by fare paid and/or other details on the ticket for a period of seven consecutive days inclusive of date of issue and including Sundays, Weekly (10 Journey) Tickets are valid.
Child 10 Journey Weekly Tickets: To children under 16 years of age on production of valid Bus Éireann Record Card, which is showing date of birth of a child, Child 10 Journey Weekly Tickets are issued.
Student 10 Journey Weekly Tickets: To students aged 16 years and over on production of valid Bus Éireann Record Card or current International Student Identity Card (ISIC) or valid Student Identity Card, Student 10 Journey Weekly Tickets are issued. With Student 10 Journey Weekly Tickets on production of valid Bus Éireann Record Card, apprentices over 16 and fewer than 23 years of age may be issued.
Family Return Tickets: To family groups consisting of one or two adults and up to a maximum of three children less than 16 years of age, Family Return Tickets valid as Ordinary Return Tickets are issued. On cross border services, Family Return Tickets are not available.
